Depth psychotherapy in Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat — for trauma, anxiety, and the patterns that don't shift with talk alone.

I'm Sebastian Kitchen, a psychotherapist working in Kangaroo Flat. The way I work, therapy is a chance to slow down enough to actually notice what you're feeling, and then connect that to your thoughts, your body, and the patterns you keep finding yourself in. I work somatically and relationally: I pay attention to what's happening in your body in the room, not just the story you're telling about it.
My work is trauma-focused and body-aware. I draw on techniques from Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and I'm trained in Level 1 of the Three Pillars of Integrative Attachment Therapy (Brown & Elliott) — a way of working with trauma held in the nervous system and in how we learned to attach, early on. You don't find much of this kind of work up this way. I'm registered with PACFA (#32932) and work under supervision with Dr Tra-ill Dowie.
A relaxed conversation by phone or video — share what's bringing you here, ask any questions, and see whether the work feels like a fit. No obligation, no charge. Bendigo, Kyneton, or online.
A lot of the people I see have done therapy before. They've used their Medicare sessions, found CBT useful up to a point, and come away feeling like something underneath never quite got reached. If that's you, you're often who I work best with: the work that comes after the work, when you're ready to go deeper and give it some time.
Some things don't shift by talking about them. Trauma that lives in the body, anxiety that's in your chest before you've had a thought, the same relationship pattern coming round again — that work tends to happen lower down, in the body and the nervous system, and it can't be rushed. Work like this is still hard to find in regional Victoria. That's the work I'm here for.
I live near Castlemaine and have a deep love for this country.

As a PACFA-registered psychotherapist rather than a psychologist, I operate as a private-pay practitioner — Medicare rebates do not apply. However, some private health funds offer partial rebates for PACFA-registered practitioners. Many clients find this works well, particularly those who have already used their annual Medicare psychology sessions and want to continue their work.
Psychologists in Bendigo typically work within Medicare-rebated frameworks — structured, short-term, CBT-focused. That can be genuinely helpful. But it's often not enough for people dealing with trauma that hasn't responded to standard approaches, complex relational patterns, or the kind of work that requires depth and time. My work is relational, somatic, and open-ended. We work with what's happening in your body and in the room — not just talking about your problems from a distance.
Yes. I see male clients of all ages and welcome this work — men in midlife, men navigating relationship breakdown, men carrying trauma or grief, men working with sexuality or identity. It's one of several areas I work in, alongside trauma, anxiety, depression, and integrative depth work more broadly.
Yes. I'm trained in Level 1 of the Three Pillars of Integrative Attachment Therapy (Brown & Elliott), a structured framework for working with the kind of trauma that lives in our attachment system — disorganised attachment, complex relational trauma, the patterns we developed early to survive. This pairs naturally with body-aware work, since attachment trauma is held in the nervous system as much as in our stories.
Yes. I have a particular interest in working with adults in later life — the existential transitions that come with ageing, end-of-life reflection, grief and loss, identity questions, and the longer arc of what a life has meant. Depth therapy at this stage of life is something I welcome and have time for.
Yes. The Kangaroo Flat practice is easily accessible from across the Bendigo region — CBD, Eaglehawk, Big Hill, Lockwood, Marong — and from Castlemaine, Maldon, and Heathcote. For clients further afield, online sessions are available throughout Australia and internationally.
Psychologists typically hold a postgraduate degree in psychology and are registered with AHPRA. They often work with structured, evidence-based protocols like CBT. Psychotherapists train specifically in the therapeutic relationship itself, often with deeper training in modalities like somatic therapy, attachment work, and existential approaches. Both are qualified mental health professionals — the difference is often in approach and depth. I'm registered with PACFA (Reg. #32932), the peak body for psychotherapists and counsellors in Australia.
I'm an integrative psychotherapist based in Central Victoria. My clinical work draws on somatic psychology — including techniques from Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy — and Level 1 training in the Three Pillars of Integrative Attachment Therapy (Brown & Elliott), alongside trauma-focused approaches and existential and person-centred frameworks. I work with people dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, relational patterns, life transitions, and the bigger questions of meaning and identity.
I work under clinical supervision with Dr Tra-ill Dowie PhD, ensuring your therapy meets the highest standards of care and accountability.
